Originally from Hyogo, Japan, Kakutani’s artwork is in the permanent collections of several museums, including the Guggenheim Museum (New York) and the Haifa Museum (Israel) in addition to museums throughout the United States. He has been the featured artist for several exhibitions in Japan, Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. Kakutani has also taught at several universities in the United States and Japan.
Kakutani’s artistic interests include anagama firing, which is a Japanese style tunnel kiln, in addition to tanegashima firing and experimenting with woodfire on glaze and clay.
